Omron Announces Global Workforce Reductions Amid Operating Challenges

Omron, the Japanese electronics manufacturer, announced on February 26 that it will be implementing workforce reductions globally due to a decline in operating performance. This decision will affect a total of 2,000 employees, with 1,000 job cuts expected in Japan and another 1,000 overseas. As of March 2023, Omron's workforce stands at approximately 28,000 employees. The reduction of 2,000 positions represents a workforce decrease of around 7%.

As part of its workforce optimization efforts, Omron has outlined plans to offer voluntary retirement packages to its employees in Japan. Beginning April 10 and extending through the end of May, the company will accept voluntary retirement applications from approximately 1,000 employees. This group accounts for about 10% of Omron's total workforce. Eligible applicants are primarily regular employees aged 40 or above as of July 20 of this year, with a minimum of three years of service.
